House and Techno are genres that paint the worlds’ canvasses of clubs and festivals. Here at the SDS office, we put our own fast five pick of DJs that are killing it in the world right now, and their respective works of art for you to enjoy.
Born in the city of secret nuclear facilities, Siberia, Nina Kraviz moved to Moscow to study dentistry, and house music. After releasing tracks under a trio called MySpaceRocket, Kraviz went solo and starting releasing heavy club tracks, notably “Ghetto Kraviz”. She would then travel the world and start a label, Trip (or трип) and spread the distinct underground Russian & Scandinavian music to the world. Nina’s tracks really do take you on an exotic trip, feeling the heavy techno atmospheric and industrial synths with distinct heavy house bass kicks.

From the roots of Lake Orion, Michigan, Seth Troxler is a baller by definition, and an export from the ember depths of Detroit techno. Starting in Detroit in 2002 as a recurrent DJ in club The Works, and as a retail clerk at Detroit’s famous Melodies and Memories record store, being a supernatural rave selector was an inevitability. The world starting noticing Seth and he started playing at famous clubs such as Tenax, MUTEK, , Panorama Bar, Watergate, Robert Johnson, Detroit Electroinc Music Festival, The Rex, Fuse, Avalon and The End Up. As well as being a resident at Berlin’s legendary Club der Visionäre. Seth eventually moved to Berlin and the rest is history.

Hailing form Durban, South Africa, Black Coffee brews up the distinct groove and low end of classic house and blends the grain with Afro house. The blend produces a distinct smooth taste of afro textures with club house kicks; perfect for the world of Ibiza. After producing award winning album “Home Brewed”, the jazz-trained afro beat producer continued refining his sound with Black Coffee. Distinctly studious and innovative, Black Coffee’s music is one of the major driving forces in modern club music – ‘the house music way’.

Starting as a DJ in the depths of the East European underground, Solomun rose to popularity after his Ibiza success in 2013. His infamous “Solomun+1” residency at Pacha became the Sunday night event to go to on the island. Solomun followed the hype in 2015 with “Solomun+live”, adding live acts to his performance experience. Solomun’s style draws upon a deep animalistic emotions blended with raw vigour to instill a unique, inventive club sound.

A product of the Dallas, Miami and Cuba, Maceo Plex aka Maetrik is definitely an indulgent mix of culture, percussion and atmosphere of music. Now residing in Barcelona, Spain, Maceo Plex is still adding more to his eclectic selection.
